Therapist and Clinical Counsellor in BC

My Background

Taking the first step for counselling could be intimidating. It might help to get to know me a little bit.

I am a cisgender, middle-class Asian immigrant woman who first came to Canada from Hong Kong as an international student over 17 years ago. I am also a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)

Growing up, connecting deeply with others was always something I cherished. I became the person to whom friends and family turned when they needed someone to listen to their struggles. This role of listener came naturally to me, nurturing a supportive and empathetic approach in my interactions.

However, coming from an Asian background, I faced the familial expectation to pursue a degree in business. It wasn't until I was halfway through my degree that an elective course in Psychology ignited a passion within me for understanding mental health. This discovery led me to make a heartfelt decision to switch my focus to psychology, propelling me into a world where I felt I truly belonged. From then on, I dedicated myself to volunteering with social service organizations, each experience deepening my resolve to help others.

My journey as a Therapist

While volunteering at a crisis line service, I realized the profound need people have to be understood by someone who genuinely listens and trusts. This inspired me to foster even more meaningful conversations, which not only sought to understand but to facilitate positive changes in people's lives. This drive culminated in my pursuit of a Master of Counselling Psychology at Adler Univeristy, allowing me to professionalize my passion for listening and supporting others.

My professional journey has since taken me across various experiences, working with children, young adults, adults, Asian diasporas, immigrants, international students, and individuals from various ethnic backgrounds. I've addressed a wide array of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, burnout, and bipolar disorder, among others.

Drawing upon my own experiences of growing up at the intersection of collectivist and Western cultures, I've become a conduit for second-generation individuals struggling with cultural identity and familial relationships.

I treasure the uniqueness of each person's experience and identity, committing myself to support each individual in their journey toward mental wellness.

My Life outside of being a Clinical Counsellor in BC:

When I'm not working as a clinical counsellor, you’ll often find me and my partner with our Jindo dog, rescued from Korea, enjoying peaceful walks in the park. I love exploring my creative side through arts and crafts and delving into spirituality. In my free time, I prioritize quality moments with loved ones, journaling, and staying active through regular workouts or a fun Zumba session.
